Prof. Microbe™ which uses 100% organic, food safe, earth friendly, people, pet safe and chemical-free. The professor uses a combination food grade enzymes and microbes to digest dirt, food waste, grease and various contaminants.
The enzymes are like “knives and forks,” cutting up the bad germs into little pieces for the microbes to digest, in the same way that food is broken down in our stomachs: into harmless fatty acids.
In Africa, our lack of industrial standards means that so-called “natural” or “green” cleaners can simply designate themselves as such based on their own guidelines. Because these products are essentially unregulated, they may tend to mislead consumers into believing they are safe and effective.
For example, some of the most popular cleaning brands contain preservatives that are toxic and known to cause allergies, asthma and skin irritations.
Chemical-Free cleaning has been trending within the commercial sector. For example, Randy Reed, assistant director of housekeeping at North Carolina State University, has replaced the traditional cleaners used by the university to clean floors, surfaces and even urinals, with split stream water technology.
This solution, and others like it, including steam vapour systems, spray and vacuum systems, and ozonated and electrolyzed systems, use electricity to turn water into a cleaning agent. However, some, like Stephen Atkins, executive director of The Green Cleaning Network, have rejected the term “chemical-free” cleaning because they suggest that no cleaning product or device can completely avoid the use of chemicals.
The other problem with these so-called chemical-free cleaners is that they indiscriminately kill the good germs that protect us
In the later part of the 19th Century, strong evidence suggested that germs caused disease, kicking off a 100-year war against all germs after Clorox “weaponized” bleach in 1913. However, the war against germs has come at a cost.
We have turned our immune systems against germs not only through bleach but with drugs like penicillin that have destroyed them, and we have expunged germs from our water, food and homes. Human death from infectious diseases has subsequently fallen by more than 90%, contributing to the transformation of society.
Nonetheless, every year, roughly 25,000 Americans die from antibiotic-resistance infections. Gestation, infancy and early childhood are especially vulnerable times because the young body is growing and developing rapidly. In short, we need most of the germs we are eliminating.
By law, on their labels disinfectants must list the pathogens [bad germs like flu and E.coli] that they have been tested for, and which have been found to be effective. Thus, we can see for ourselves that some of the most popular disinfectants are effective on only a small number of pathogens.
Disinfectant products also make marketing statements to the effect that they kill 99.9% of germs within 30 seconds. However, this is somewhat inaccurate. Only some organisms are killed in 30 seconds; the remainder may take a full five or ten minutes during which time the disinfectant must remain moist on the cleaned surface before being wiped up.
Ever wonder how Mrs. Hughes kept Downton Abbey spic and span without so much as a splash of bleach or disinfectant? She cleaned with eggshells, gin, potatoes, tea leaves, rhubarb, bread crumbs and other natural foodstuffs.
Unfortunately, the natural cleaners Mrs. Hughes and other 19th Century housekeepers used have now been replaced with toxic chemicals that harm us and the environment (Germ Warfare, New Scientist, January 14, 2017).
